WIRED plans to expand applied math, science, technology and engineering education in Southeast Michigan, while increasing minority participation in those areas.WIRED will expand two existing high quality STEM education programs throughout the region - Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP). DAPCEP will be developing a new middle school curriculum, and expanding their program into two to three new school districts. PLTW will be expanding their "hands on" curriculum to approximately 50 new schools in the region over the next three years. WIRED funding will support outreach and recruitment of additional schools and school districts into the program, as well as the cost of teacher training through Eastern Michigan University (EMU) for schools that are new to the program. The curriculum is provided to the school free of charge by PLTW. Efforts will also be made to identify non-WIRED resources for schools needing to purchase additional laboratory equipment in order to implement the PLTW program. For more information contact:
